Dear Auskick Mums and Dads,
Your attention has no doubt already turned to summer sporting activates! However to help plan your football activities in 2015 and beyond, we thought it sensible to send through details about junior football and our club early.
About Junior Football
Boys and girls aged 7 on 1 January 2015 are eligible to play modified junior football, in a local competition that is well managed, inexpensive and designed for young kids! An emphasis is placed on participation, friendships and having a lot of fun. Rules are modified with zones, limited tackling, no kicking off the ground etc.
Junior football training is expected to start in March 2015, with the official season commencing in early April. The Under 8 and Under 9 age groups play 12 rounds of football against other local teams on a Sunday morning and finish off the season in July with a lightning carnival. Under 8 games are usually at 8.45am.
In 2015, we are aiming to combine our U8 & U9 football training during the season with the Auskick timeslot…..the idea is to introduce kids to the fun of football games, but continue with the success of the Auskick program that develops skills and coordination.
About St Paul’s McKinnon JFC
The Valkstone St Paul’s/ McKinnon Auskick program is affiliated with the St Paul’s McKinnon Junior football Club, a foundation club with the South Metro Junior Football League…the biggest junior football league in the country.
St Paul’s McKinnon is a community club that brings 3 schools together at the junior end….Valkstone PS, McKinnon PS and St Paul’s PS. We currently have 250 players across 10 teams from Under 8’s right through to Under 17’s. We have a very successful history on the field and have developed a number of players that have gone onto play VFL & AFL football. Our motto is “Football – Families – Fun”.
But, we are more than a football club. We are a hub in the heart of the McKinnon/Bentleigh community that places a strong emphasis on the family and social development of our kids. We have 6 dedicated family nights throughout the season, including 4 “Demon of the Month” nights where parents and kids congregate together for a meal and celebration of our players. We have a season launch, pie nights, a kid’s movie night, a parents social night and an awards day (where all our junior teams get participation trophies). Strong friendships are built between kids and parents alike.
And next year we hope to have our new electronic scoreboard installed that will bring McKinnon oval alive!
