Tom Murphy to play at De La Salle in 2015
De La Salle OCAFC is extremely excited to officially announce that Tom Murphy will play for the club in 2015. Tom recently retired from the Gold Coast Suns having played 112 AFL games over a 10 year career, most of those as part of some very strong Hawthorn teams.
Coach Paul Satterley spoke with Tom today and said he was very happy for the club to secure someone of Tom's talent and experience.
"Tom will be moving back to Melbourne in coming months, he will settle into his new lifestyle and work and fortunately he is also keen to continue playing footy. He will be a great resource both on and off the field given his experience and we welcome him to our club. The recruitment of Tom complements a long list of players returning for next season, this is a great result".
Tom is still just 28 years old and will be a huge asset to the club.
Tom looks to be joined by younger brother Xavier. Xavier has recently completed his studies and providing his job placement is in Melbourne he will join brothers Tom and Ed (who had an excellent season as a key defender this year). Xavier was a member of the undefeated 2010 U19 premiership team and was a regular senior player as an 18 year old before heading off to VFL club Box Hill in 2011. He has had four very good years at Box Hill and was named as one of the best players in their 2013 premiership team.
We are also pleased to welcome a host of quality players back to the club for the next season. That list includes, Sam Nethersole, Tyson Hunt, Ben Humphrey, Sam Brooks, Brendan Close, Brad Wilson, Hugh Nicholson and Dave Convery. Plenty of senior experience and talent in that group. The club is also thrilled with the return of giant young ruckmen Paul Johnson after two injury-interrupted seasons in he VFL.
There are a few others on the cusp of committing so stay tuned for more updates.
We have a fair bit of ground to make up on the top teams who will no doubt also be improving their lists but I’m sure everyone would agree we could not have made a better start to the 2015 campaign.
