Finals time and it was not a great Saturday for the club with both the seniors in football and A grade in netball suffering defeats. Luckily both worked hard during the year to cement the double chance and thus have a chance for redemption. Our seniors had a forgettable day against Stratford where a poor second quarter put them behind the eight ball. However hopefully a good win today against Wy Yung will see they can get another crack at the swans in the big one. Best players last week were Justin Blair and David Donchi. Similarly our A grade netballers had an off day however we are extremely confident the girls will bounce back an record a win over Orbost-Snowy Rovers and move into the Grand Final. Best last week was Captain Bronwyn Evans.
Sunday saw a better result with our B Grade netballers recording a strong victory over Orbost-Snowy Rovers to move into today’s preliminary final. The B Grade girls started well and with Robyn Dunkley and Georgie Favaloro dominating the girls recorded a 5 goal victory. If the girls can replicate last week they will have a great chance of defeating the Stratford girls today and move into the Grand Final.
A big thank-you to all the club volunteers that helped out with the Booth on Saturday and also the Canteen on Sunday. With Sunday being father’s day it was good to see people put their hand up to help out. Special mention to Jo Hurley and Robyn Dunkley who helped with the co-coordinating and running of the canteen. They have done this for not only for Sunday but also for the whole year. Thanks Girls. Jason Hurley also deserves special praise for his work in the canteen. A 7 hour shift, thanks Jas.
The club officially advertised all coaching positions for both Football and Netball for season 2015. While we are still focused on success this year we must start planning for next year also. Current coaches or anyone interest in a coaching position is encouraged to speak to David Dunkley (0418 598750) for Football or Bec Whelan (0409 935 666) for Netball.
Just a reminder that the club’s Vote Count/Presentation Night is being held at the Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre on Saturday October 4 starting at 5.30pm and includes a two course dinner for $20 per head. Let’s get there and celebrate a great year.
Today we have three teams needing victories to chase a shot at a premiership. So let’s get behind them cheer loudly and hopefully celebrate three great victories. After the games we will go back to the Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Center for awards and a meal.
Good luck to all players.
Go Cats!!!!!
