A big few days for the Cats last weekend. Firstly in a hotly contested match our senior side had a massive second half to clinch the vital four points against Wy Yung and cemented the double chance by finishing second on the ladder. Well done to Turk and the boys. Your effort throughout the year has been rewarded. Also last Saturday there were great wins in A Grade and C Reserve for our netball girls.
The news then got even better on Monday night with David Donchi and Bronwyn Evans both finishing runners-up in the Senior Football League Best and Fairest and A grade Netball League Best and Fairest respectively. A great effort by David and for a first year player at the club it justifies the faith that made us so keen to recruit him at the end of last season. Well done Donch. Also a fantastic effort from our A grade Captain Bronwyn with another fantastic season well rewarded. Her trophy cabinet is starting to look better than big brother Vaughan and that would be hurting. Well done Bronnie. Also polling well on the night was Bree Coles who finished in 3rd place in A grade.
A big thank-you to the Glenaldale Cricket Club for catering for last Saturday night’s meal with proceeds going towards a local family with a sick child. The night was a huge success and a successful auction and wood raffle saw a significant amount of money raised. To John Hine, John Cameron and the glen crew thank-you also remiss not to thank our auctioneer Morgan Davies. Well done everyone.
Just a reminder that the club’s Vote Count/Presentation night is being held at the Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre on Saturday October 4 starting at 5.30 pm and includes a two course dinner for $20 per head. Come and celebrate the year.
Today finals beckon and this weekend we will be represented by three teams over two days. Saturday sees our seniors take on Stratford in the first semi final. This will be a cracking game and if the guys show the same commitment to the cause that has happened in our last two games an upset is on the cards. Let’s make it happen.
The A Grade netball girls have improved all season and Coach Janelle has them primed for a shot at a premiership. Like the seniors the girls take on Stratford and the last time the two sides met it was a draw so a tight game is likely to involve with hopefully the Cats to prevail. After the games on Saturday we will go back to the Bairnsdale Sporting and Convention Centre for awards and a meal.
Sunday our B Grade netballers take on Orbost-Snowy Rovers at 1 pm in an elimination final. Please come along and support the girls so that we can keep them involved for another week. Good luck to Coach Cathy and the players.
Go Cats!!!
