" Roley only ever saw good things in people. In Australian Football, he was the patriarch of Australian Football and umpiring from day 1 in Bundaberg. The first game played back in 1970's needed an umpire, so Roley offered his services. Not knowing the rules, he worked it out as he went. Over the years he was the main field umpire and in later years the stalwart of the goal umpiring. He was so well respected by almost all players that even when he made mistakes (something he NEVER admitted to...haha), everyone accepted his decisions out of respect .
One year Roley got lumbered with the job of Umpires' Advisor after the incumbent UA got the boot mid-season......Roley and Bill spent too many conversations talking about selection scenarios ........Because he cared so much about everyone, he wanted everyone to do the senior grand final.
So, to the Excellent Roley Thank you for all your years of service.
