Semi Final Vs Pennant Hills
The Warriors faced Pennant Hills in a Sunday knock out semi final on heavy Henson Park after a weekend down pour. The Warriors went into the game on the back of a 4 goal defeat at the hands of UTS in the Qualifying final and Pennant Hills progressed after defeating Parramatta in their knock out qualifying final. The Warriors had a strong week on the track in preparation for a strengthen Pennant Hills in which the Warriors had defeated by 7 points 2 weeks earlier in Rd18. The Warriors had the same 22 from the week prior, all the better for a run in finals footy to show the boys the 4 quarter effort required to win in September.
The Warriors started well with the first 2 goals with the wind in their backs but Pennant Hills kicked the last 2 of the quarter to going into the first break with scores level at 2.3. Second term the Warriors again started strongly with the first 2 goals before Pennant Hills followed up with 3 goals 5 before the warriors kicked the last of the half to go into the long break down by 5. The half time message was to continue taking the game on and move the ball quickly. The Warriors would have liked a better scoreboard return form the third managing 1 goal 3 with the wind while Pennant Hills kicked 2 goals 3 to take an 11 point advantage to the last change and the wind in their backs for the last.
The Warriors were asked to go out and play their best quarter of footy for the season and courtesy of the Robbo ¾ time pump up the boys came out to play. Moving the ball quickly the warriors kicked the first to bridge the gap to less than a straight kick before Pennant Hills kicked away again to a 14 point lead with 2min and time on to play. The Warriors kicked the next bringing them game back to less than 2 straight kicks. Winning the centre clearances and moving the ball quickly inside 50 result with the Warriors kicking the next 2 putting them in the lead with what they thought was less than a minute to play. The longest minute of the season played out with Pennant Hills managing 2 behinds and the Warriors hanging onto a come from behind 2 point win.
