A great friend of the Heathmont Football Club, Simon Minson, sadly passed away on September 1 in Bangkok. 'Simmo' fell ill on a trip to Vietnam with mates from his school days at Vermont Secondary College. Simmo was 22 years old. His condition deteriorated and his Mum and Dad flew over to be with their son. Over the weekend Simon had been transferred to Bangkok by medivac so that his request for no medical action would be met.
He started playing football at the Jets Juniors in the Under 13’s and then moved to the Senior Club playing in the Colts and Reserves. When he wasn't playing, he was the first to put up his hand to help out wherever possible.
The Heathmont Football Club has not and will not see a stronger person come through its doors. Simon had Cystic Fibrosis, a condition he never let get in the way of living life to the fullest.
One of our coaches nicknamed Simmo “the boy in the bubble” like he just needed a bit of protection – Simmo did not need protection, he just wanted to be one of the boys.
Our sincere condolences go out to Simon’s family, friends and teammates.
RIP Simmo.
The Heathmont Football Club is asking for donations of goods and services that we can auction at a fundraising event on Friday September 12 at HE Parker Reserve clubrooms at 7pm. Entry to the night will be $25.00 and all money raised on the night will go to the Minson family. As he was overseas there will be a financial burden on the family that we want to ease as much as possible.
The event is on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/770024603061955.
If you can’t attend on the 12th you can donate via this link https://www.mycause.com.au/page/82022/simonminson
We'd love to reach our fundraising target for the family, and anything above that we'd be happy to give to Cystic Fibrosis Australia.
