Grand Final Weekend

It's that special time of year, that one day in September...the State League version anyway. It's been an up and down season for some of our teams however we had four teams in action in week one of the finals, three of which have progressed to their respective grand finals to be played this weekend, Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September. Now for a look at each teams finals campaign.

Women's Div 1.

The ladies had a tough year having to play Capital League teams in addition to battling their Div 1 opponents. However, with the coaching expertise of Stewie and Bieber, they finished 5th on the table behind three CL teams and one Div 1 side, Belwest. They played superbly in the semi final, beating Gungahlin 5-1. They now progress to the big one to take on Belwest.

Women's Div 3.

The team had another successful season, finishing 3rd and setting up a date with Gungalin United in the semi final. Unfortunately the ladies weren't rewarded for their hard efforts, going down 0-1. Led by Paulie and Timmsy the ladies showed true Puma pride and spirit all year and are already looking ahead to next season.

Men's Div 3.

With Ado at the helm, and Grayson in Ado's absence, the lads had a great season, their strong play seeing them on or near the top of the ladder all year. In a very tight finish they landed 3rd spot on the ladder to set up an elimination semi against Monaro. The Pumas were looking to turn around a 2-1 loss to Monaro last time out. With the scores locked at 1-1 after extra time the match went to penalties. It ended 3-1 in the Pumas favour with Paulie pulling out some 'keeper heroics to send the lads through to the preliminary final. The opponent for this match was Cooma who finished the season as Champions. This match also went the distance, 0-0 after extra time. The Pumas only missed one penalty and Paulie stepped up again, saving the last two penalties. Jesse entertained the crowd with his premature celebration and solo sprint towards Paulie, before he had taken his own penalty to actually win the match. The lads are now looking forward to the GF against Goulburn.

Men's Masters Div 4.

The masters side only dropped 8 points all season and deservedly finished as Champions. In the major semi final they defeated Weston Molonglo A 3-0, earning a week off. In an intriguing matchup their GF opponent will be Weston after they beat Gungahlin United 2-0 to earn a rematch with the Pumas.
