A calm has descended on Lismore's Mortimer oval. Indeed, an almost tangible serenity has manifest on the home of the Lismore Swans Australian Rules Football Club. It is the feeling of calmness that instills itself with the confidence in knowing that 22 men who take the field tomorrow to represent their club, city and eachother have left nothing to chance in preparing for their do-or-die clash against the old foe in black and red.
For the playing group charged with the task of progressing the club to it's first preliminary final since 2011, it feels like only yesterday that Senior Coach Joe Mitchell pressed home the message that to be successful, the boys must bond together and 'live in eachother's pockets, and truly yearn to fight for eachother'. Since November of last year, that message has been the mantra for a rejuvenated club determined to earn it's respect on the field as a united force.
Appropriately, given the pertinence of this mantra to the club's endeavours in 2014, the message from Club President Wes Seewald to the Swans lining up beside him on the field against Ballina, is to honour everyone who has contributed to the club on and off the field.
"We have 22 guys who will give their all tomorrow, not just for themselves and eachother, but for everyone who has played, trained, driven the bus, cooked the BBQ, sponsored, iced sore ankles or stood in the rain to cheer on the boys. We're a united club that has a proud history of community and tomorrow's game is a tribute to everyone who is a part of our mob."
A Swans victory will see the boys take on the loser of the Bond University Bullsharks v Tweed Coast Tigers final for a spot against the winner of that match in the QAFA (B) South Grand final. The Swans take the field tomorrow at 12pm at Bond Univeristy Oval in Varisty Lakes (QLD).
Cheer, cheer, the red and the white.
