The minor round game saw the green and gold travel to Kdoo were we came away with 2 wins a draw and a loose. We now all look forward to the finals series where we have the junior and senior colts playing in the first semifinal at Glencoe and the A Grade in the second semifinal at Hatherleigh a week later. All the supporters wish each team the best of luck for the finals play to your potential and the results will come.
Junior Colts: In a close contest with Kalangadoo the lads managed to sneak across the line. We didn’t manage to get our running game working for long periods but when we did we moved the ball well. Brett Russell was exceptional all game picking up BOG. Trent Gibbs was very competitive giving his all. Zane Heywood was solid down back holding up many attacks. Connor Wilson was his usual self giving his all. Brodie Gregory was another good competitor for us. Congratulations boys making the finals let’s give it our best shot and anything can happen.
Senior Colts: The Senior colts took on the second placed maggies and with nothing to gain or lose it was still important for the lads to put up a fight and take some form into the finals. The burr boys got off to a good start kicking the first few goals but the Doo ground their way back and the remainder of the game was a good hard fought contest just what both sides needed with finals around the corner. The backline were solid with Sam Wal, Corey G, Ben B, Ben S, Liam and Lochie Collyer all contributing, James W worked tirelessly for the entire game as did Brodie Q. Everyone played their role and in the end we came away with the win. The lads are excited about playing finals footy but we mustn't take anything for granted.
B Grade: Wow what an exciting way to finish the season. If Kongorong beat Nangwarry then the winner from our game would just sneak into the finals. The burr boys started on fire kicking the first few goals of the game. The backline were dominating their opponents with some great clearances from Graham Fennell and Ben Gordon. Kdoo managed to gradually get back into the game and at 3/4 time the game was there to win for both teams. The Burr started the last quarter well and were out to a three goal lead. Then the lack of training and fitness became a factor as kdoo started to dominate the centre bounce and kicked two quick goals. After dominating his opponent all day Graham Fennell hurt his leg in a marking contest which resulted in a mark and goal to kdoo. With the Burr only two points up with only minutes to go kdoo scored a point. Unfortunately the kick out from full back went out of bounds on the full which gave kdoo a chance to win the game. The shot at goal just missed bringing the scores level. Shortly after the siren sounded ending the game in a draw. Both sides knew that a draw was not going to be enough to take them to the finals. To ease the disappointment Nangwarry defeated Kongorong making the result irrelevant. Best players were Bronte Grosser, Ferg, Graham Fennell, Ash Butler, Luke Thiele and Lewis Von Einem
A Grade: Our last game of the season saw us travel down to Kalangadoo where some good weather had resulted in perfect conditions for football. To Kalangadoo’s credit, they applied intense pressure around the ball and spread with numbers resulting in them having a blistering opening term. Their intensity caused our boys to perceive pressure which caused our handballing and kicking efficiency to significantly drop following the opening term. To the boys credit they played some good football in patches but could not match Kalangadoo’s work rate for the full four quarters. Solid contributors for the day included Jamie Little, Clint Gallio and Josh Fiebig. We wish Josh a speedy recovery with his injury and hope he can get back to support the team going forward. We look forward to moving forward and meeting Kalangadoo on the wide open Hatherleigh oval where we hope to demonstrate a full four quarter effort.
Saturday night saw Anne Sappiatzer win the $1000 in the 100 club draw, the Sporty’s came away with the $600, Wayne Fennell the $400, Cathy Wiese $200, Vicki Thiele $150 & Adam Wiese $100. Thanks to all who brought a ticket in the initial 100 club, we will definitely be doing the 100 club again next year and will start selling the tickets after this year’s grand final see Gards, Justin or Ron for your tickets. Congratulations to Nathan Muhovics and Scott Gamble for playing their 150th game in the second semi, a great achievement by both of these young blokes. Once again these two would have fielded offers from numerous other clubs and like our other players who have played milestone games have stuck strong with the club and thoroughly deserve everything that comes their way. A reminder there is still a large number of the $5 potatoes bags available, see nuts or Jimmy if you would like any and remember all money comes to the club. We all wish Tom Fennell and Josh Fiebig a speedy recovery from their injury’s and hope they can take their place in the second semifinal as they deserve.
Hell it’s good out here
