The Western Magpies will host second placed Labrador on Sunday at Chelmer and will be keen to create a bit of mayhem with an upset victory.
The match looks like it will be replay weather-wise as in their earlier clash it was wet and windy and out was only several short periods of play when the Tigers snaffled several sneaky goals that separated the two teams. The forecast for Sunday is for wet weather as well.
The Pies have made four changes to the side that went down narrowly to Broadbeach last Saturday, bringing in half forward Matt Davis after missing 1 match with a knee twinge, in-form defender Peter Kilroy, rover Chris Judson after consistent Reserves form and Redlands listed defender Blaec Ablett after 2 Reserves matches after a long injury lay-off.
Out go small forward Jake Fuentes to the Reserves, Richard Wenham with hamstring tightness, Ben Landry to Redlands seniors and rover Matt Sondergeld with a recurrent hamstring strain.
Dom Beer and Ben Jaenke-Cain—deserved Syd Guildford award winner for last round after having a stellar season and match last week—have been superb in the middle of the ground.
Jordan Bain booted 8 goals last week and will look to good delivery from his midfield and Matt garland was also in good form last week with strong marks.
One of the shining lights for the Piers this season has been the emergence of Mitch Stallard, who has improved throughout the season on a wing
The defence will be better for Doug Lawrence and Bill Moorehead having a match under their belt last week after long absences and Chris Hunt has had a good year in the key defensive post.
Coach Glenn Humphrey will ask for another big effort from his players—Michael Voss said last night on “AFL 360|” all the skill in the world is no good if there is no effort!! For most of the year the pies have not lacked effort but have been let down by skill errors, often when not under pressure. Therefore the Pies will also want to continue with the delivery and good decision making they showed for three quarters last week and if they put it together then they can upset the more fancied Tigers.
