The Magpies travel to Gold Coast to take on the Broad Beach Cats this week off the back of a disappointing number of weeks of football. The Senior Team is very determined to make amends and make a statement in the last 3 weeks of QAFL fixtures this season and let the competition know they will be a force to be reckoned with in Season 2015.
Last time these sides played it was 80 points apiece at ¾ time, but unfortunately Broad Beach ran out 20 point winners on the day, 108 to 88. This should be motivation for the Coaching and the Playing Group this Saturday to reverse this result.
The selection committee has made 7 changes from last week. A number of Senior Player s have come back through Reserves from the previous week and also have been recovering from injury, such as Billy Morehead, Hayden Thick and Doug Lawrence. All can make an impact on this game. Additionally we welcome the inclusion of Redlands players, Landry and Michael, who will bolster our midfield and forward line. The Coaching Staff has rewarded Jake Fuentes for his consistent and exciting form in the Reserve Grade for most of the year; and also have included the explosive Jake Heard to enhance our leg speed around the ground.
It is imperative this week we ensure our forward line is fully functional, dangerous, accurate and delivers its capability of what it has promised, to the supporters for most of this season.
There are a number of players looking to finish this season off well … so we can look forward to a very competitive game of football this weekend.
Players to watch: Jordan Bain at full forward, Matt Thompson, Doc Davis and Matt Garland who will be dangerous on Broadbeach's bigger ground.
Our Reserve Grade Team is striving to play well over the next 3 weeks against quality sides and bring this form into the final. Strengthened by the return of Gabe McKinnon, Tom Ielasi, Captain Sean McEvoy and Peter Kilroy, we look forward to a tight tussle against Broad Beach Reserves who are currently 5th place on the ladder, but only 2 games behind.
Our Colts are hoping to finish the season on a high after their first win last week against the students. A number of players are playing their second and third games and are improving out of sight.
