Under 14s Football
Alexandra 3.6 – 24 defeated Euroa 3.5 – 23
Conditions were soft at Euroa with a very heavy centre wicket area and Alexandra Under 14’s started slowly, both sides goal less at quarter time with Alex lucky to hold the Euroa boys out. Euroa posted the first goals of the match in the second quarter leading 2-2-14 to Alexandra 0-4-4. Alexandra was unlucky in front of goal with a number of opportunities going begging. At the start of the third quarter Coach Crab made some changes to personnel opting to go out on the attack and not trying to save the game. This resulted in a goal in the third quarter and closing the margin to 4 points at the end of the quarter. In the three quarter huddle Crab implored his charges to go for broke and give it their all and it was clear that the rousing speech had the desired effect with 2 goals coming via determined Alex football and Peter Cairns to get to a 10 point lead. Euroa to their credit lifted and a goal with 3 minutes to play brought the margin to 1 point. Coach Gilmore sent forwards into the defensive half to nullify the rampant Euroa and Alexandra held on to record a 1 point victory, scores Alexandra 3-6-24 to Euroa 3-5-23.
