The “All girls footy event” was an opportunity to bring together female footballers from Auskick to under 11 to under 13 to Youth Girls (13-18) to provide a greater understanding of the female football pathway available at East Malvern, have some fun, train together and enjoy a pizza/info session. The training session involved drills and games with all girls mixed in together. The info/pizza session back at the clubrooms featured opportunities to mix the girls up in a social setting followed by some clips of the Youth Girls team in action and also highlights from the recent Melbourne v Western Bulldogs women’s exhibition match held at Etihad Stadium as well as interviews with key players/coaches from each of the teams (no under 13 coach) and also Malvern Districts Auskick. The interviews covered various topics and highlighted East Malvern players who have been successful in making state/national teams as an inspiration to the girls coming through while also hearing about the football experiences from the younger players. We would hope that the parents and players involved would also answer the call to invite friends to enrol next year so that we could also field a team in the ‘gap’ year of under 15’s.
