Campbelltown Reserves travelled to Sydney University in a game that needed to be won to keep their hopes alive of a semi final birth. A late logistical shift saw the game moved from St Pauls oval to Sydney Uni’s Oval No1 and this excited the Blues to be playing on such hallowed turf.
The Blues were under no illusions as they took to the field they needed to start winning and winning by large margins to be any hope for September. Last time the two sides met was in round 1 whereby Syd Uni ran away comprehensive winners 80 to 24. Needless to say it was a different blues now in round 14 of the competition, no longer the easy beats, but a team oppositions sides now fear.
Sydney Uni went into this game above the Blues on the table and being the home team would look to start better. From the opening bounce it was apparent this was not the case. The Blues knew the job at hand and played according to script. The blues piled on early Pressure with a stunning midfield display they opened Syd Uni’s defence wide open as the blue piled on 4 goals in the opening minutes to take a commanding lead heading into Quarter time, the Blues leading 4.3.27 to 1.0.6
The second quarter the Blues were determined not to allow their good start go to waste and the Barrage from the blues continued. This was no day for let ups as the blues streamed out of the centre and controlled the game and put Syd uni to the sword on the scoreboard. The half time score, the reserves best score for the season, 9.5.59 to 3.1.19
As many AFL tales will tell, the third quarter can be the most telling. The Blues came out with their tails up kicking early goals but to Syd Uni’s credit they fought back and managed 3 majors for the quarter, the only problem was the Blues kicked two of their own leaving the 3 quarter time score board reading 11.9.75 to 6.2.38
With the game in the bag in the final quarter it would be a case of how much for the Blues. With a 3 man bench for the entire game and various players playing through injury and pain the Blues continued to press and won the final quarter to finish the game 47 point winners. Final scores reading 14.10.94 to 7.5.47
For the record Campbelltown Blues DEF SYD UNI 14.10.94 to 7.5.47

After the match Blues coach was heard saying, “that the pleasing aspect for the blues is it’s the 3rd week in a row we have kept an opposition side to less than 47 points” and those sides are all sides above us on the ladder. This is the basis of optimising in the blues camp that they can still make finals. Although the task is a tough one the blues must beat every team they now face. With 5 Games remaining the blues face Manly this week followed by Randwick, Parramatta, Wollondilly and Moorebank to finish. Blues reserves coach is known to be ropable knowing the talent in the side and the position they sit. “I’m not happy with where we sit but our destiny is in our hands from here” “as a team we have grown and the result on the weekend shows we are more than capable of giving this competition a mighty shake”
The 12th of July 2014 will go down as a great day For the Campbelltown Football Club as its 19’s and Premier Division sides all won their respective games leaving the club in a position whereby all its teams can play finals. The Dream of September lives on...Bring on Manly Next Week!!!!!!
