This weeks results are brought to you by the Hotel Brighton - to open at the end of this month. The highlight this week was the 2 wins by the U19s against Collegions under lights on a Friday and then last Saturday against Peninsula at Keysborough. The reserves had a good win against Fitzroy but the seniors fell short by 6 points.
Round 12 saw the Bloods take on Fitzroy at our home ground of Princes Park in what was a big game for both sides. Haileybury were coming off a loss to Ajax whilst Fitzroy went down to Caulfield meaning that they remained outside the top 4. The previous time these sides met it finished in a draw and the game was predicted to be very close again.
With close to 100 people attending the past players lunch, there were plenty of OHAFC legends present to cheer on the boys. In the first half we had the majority of the play however errant kicking allowed Fitzroy to remain within one straight kick at the half time break. During the third quarter Fitzroy’s onballers started to get on top and they booted 4 goals for the quarter to our solitary major to lead by 12 points at 3 quarter time. The last quarter was set to be a thriller and the Bloods started well with Meehan taking a strong grab to convert and Gooda landing a long bomb from outside the 40 metre mark. Weekes and McLauchlan were providing drive off half back and our onball brigade were also getting on top. In a see-sawing last quarter, unfortunately the Bloods fell just short to go down by 6 points. Taylor was brilliant all day and was well supported by Witherow who provided constant run off half back and thru the midfield.
We have no game this week and then suit up against Uni Blues away on 19th July. Best of luck to Mick Meehan, Adam Weekes and Hamish McLauchlan who all made the Big V squad to take on Vic country this weekend.
The reserves recorded their third victory of the season beating Fitzroy by 33 points. Scotty Ellis booted five majors and was well supported by Heagney-Stuart, Alkemade and Thompson on the day.
The Under 19’s played under lights on Friday evening and were far too strong for Collegians. The boys ran out convincing winners by 96 points with Connelly, O’Leary, Mason and Oakes our best players.
