After the Bye we welcome Glencoe to Mt.Burr for what will be 4 hard fought games. Over the bye weekend the Juniors had their footy trip to the MCG to watch Richmond v Sydney. With 50 plus people going on the bus it made for an excellent day and night. Many thanks and congratulations go to Armando for all his hard work getting a trip like this together. Thanks also to all the Junior Committee for helping raise money and your continued support. Well done as without you our Juniors wouldn’t be able to experience such a thing.
The Mini Mossies played a 4 quarter scratch match between ourselves which turned out to be a very close game with the winning margin being 4 points. All the kids played really well and some of the skills and team work on display was great to watch. You wouldn’t have thought it was a scratch match the way they all went in and played hard football! It was really pleasing to see the little kids play their best games ever, well done to all.
Junior Colts Even though the boys had the long weekend off they came out to play on Saturday. They continued their good form on from the Pt Mac game with a well-rounded four quarter performance. The lads played great team football and every player contributed on the ground whether it was scoring a goal or handballing off or a well-placed kick to help a team mate score. Quick consistent movement of the football was the key creating space which brought our younger lads into the game. Thomas Vanderhorst was in everything in the middle of the ground and was named BOG. Liam Whitty is fast becoming a dynamo HBF with courage and skill winning him plenty of possessions. Trent Gibbs it what was his best game off the year competed for everything that came his way creating plenty of attacking moves. Fraser Johnston showed good form with solid work off the HBF stopping many forward thrusts from Kalangadoo. Edward Ballantyne and Brett Russell played their usual brilliant games with strong body work and run and carry breaking the lines and creating scoring opportunities. Well done lads
The Senior Colts took on the maggies in what was always going to be a tough battle going on prior history. The boys started off well and were moving the ball quickly around the ground. They built a handy lead but wasted many opportunities in front of goal which in turn came back to haunt them. The game was played in two halves with our boys stopping after half time and letting the doo back in the match. The last quarter was a hard slog and the opposition hit the front just moments before the siren sounded. A real shame for the lads and a wasted opportunity to cement ourselves in the top four. The Collyer boys, Ben B, Brodie Q, Tom Tuks, Brodie H and Sam W all battled tirelessly but there were too many boys that went missing or weren't prepared to put their body on the line when it counted.
Reserves Poor skills and fitness made it hard for the reserves to kick enough goals to be competitive enough to get a much needed win. These are two things that can be improved by consistently coming to training twice a week. It was extremely pleasing to see the backline play hard and accountable football, managing to win a lot of one on one contests. Unfortunately every time we went into our forward line the skills and decision making was poor and as a result only 2 goals were scored for the game. Best players were Luke Thiele, Andrew Ferg, Steven Hughes, Jacob Wilson, Chris Icky and Henry Walshaw
A Grade Last week saw us face a much improved Kalangadoo side that appears as though they are continuing to improve with more footy under their belts. The game took a while to open up before Kalangadoo registered the first score of the day and carried in a slight margin going into quarter time. Right from the outset Kalangadoo were prepared to run harder and put intense pressure on our 21 players which caused inaccurate disposal leading to a plethora of turnovers. Unfortunately, the Burr boys could not put a consistent quarter together and to Kalangadoo’s credit, they maintained their intensity to run away with a pretty easy win. Our boys know that there were only few four quarter contributors including Nick Morrison, Jamie Little and Thomas Renzi to name a few. We must continue to work hard on the track and learn from the Kalangadoo game in order to rectify our work rate when we face Glencoe today.
