Great effort by the boys at the Bear Park last Saturday but unfortunately neither the seniors nor the reserves could get the chocolates over top-side Mordialloc.
The reserves game was a low-scoring affair, with each side posting just one goal in the first half. Both sides hit the scoreboard with more frequency in the second, but unfortunately it was Mordi that were able to take control of the match. The boys played great footy for most of the afternoon, and although the two-goal loss to one of the competition’s benchmarks is a terrific effort, this match will ultimately go down as one that got away. Anthony O’Shea’s defensive efforts helped keep us in the contest while Steven ‘Scuba’ McLean was again super in the ruck. Lawrence Twirdy and Andrew Casserly also found plenty of the Sherrin for the Bears.
Smashed by over 100 points in our last meeting with the ladder-leaders, the seniors showed just how much they have improved in the last nine matches. Despite going down by three goals, the boys were never out of the contest and took the fight right up to the premiership favourites, particularly in the first half. Tom Dickson bravely overcame a heavy knock to be one of the most influential players on the ground. Col Trigellis-Smith was also superb down back while Kit Hardgrave and Nick Perry continued their improvement.
A very solid effort, lads, but we need a big win this week over Moorabbin at home if we are to play finals footy.
This Saturday night is our next major social function - the Caulfield Bears Cocktail Party. This do is a little bit more sophisticated, so it’s time for the fellas to get suited up and the ladies to bust out their best cocktail frocks. Head down to the London Tavern from 7:30pm and enjoys a ripping night of cocktails and live music. It should be an awesome do so I expect to see the majority of the playing group in attendance.
