IT WON’T go down in the annals of history as a great game, but Laharum and Noradjuha-Quantong walked away from Saturday’s clash with something to hang their hat on.
In the end it was a 12-goal victory to the Mountain Men, but most of the margin was made up in the first and last quarters.
Laharum charged out of the blocks to boot 6.6 before the Bombers registered a score.
But the Bombers battled back with some of their best ball movement of the year, keeping the scoreboard respectable and going goal-for-goal with Laharum.
The sides scored six goals apiece in the second and third quarters, before Laharum finished off with five goals to one in the last.
Mountain Man Dan Easson was named best on ground, but fellow youngster Tom Crawford caught the eye of coach Shannon Argall off a back flank.
Captain Sam Winfield was also among the best.
Argall said his team had been below its best, but could still take positives from the win.
“They certainly challenged us and kept themselves in the game for a while,” he said.
“Our inefficiency in front of goal hurt us, but the pleasing thing is that we’re developing a winning culture.
“In past seasons when we’ve been challenged, players have gone missing, but we’ve got more on-field leaders now and we’re able to keep playing the way we want to play.”
Noradjuha-Quantong coach Jarred Combe said the side had showed it could be competitive against top sides such as Laharum.
“It was probably one of the better games of footy we’ve played all season, even though the scoreboard said we lost by 12 goals,” he said.
“In the first 15 minutes we panicked with our disposal and turned it over in the defensive half but once we erased those errors, we started hitting the scoreboard.”
Bomber Jason Kerr was expected to miss with a hamstring injury, but took to the field and was one of his side’s best before being taken off in the third quarter with tightness in the same hamstring.
Laharum’s Kane Parish will have his knee assessed during the week.
