On Sunday 1st of June the Northern Knights travelled out to Shepley Oval to take on the Dandenong Stingrays in Round 9 of the TAC Cup. Wet and slippery conditions greeted both sides as they arrived and consistent showers throughout the match made for a tough encounter. The first quarter started off quiet even with the Knights answering the Stingrays early goals with majors from first gamer Kye Declase and Brayden Fiorini. A goal late in the quarter to Dandenong gave them a seven point lead at the first change. The Stingrays began to take charge of the match in the second quarter but their inaccuracy in front of goal kept the Knights in contest. Northern with Jordan Perry dominating the clearances were able to get forward against the flow and score goals through Garrett McDonagh and Mitch Dawson, however by half time Dandenong had extended its lead to 23 points. The game continue to swing Dandenong’s way in third but two quick goals through Jade Gresham and another shortly after by McDonagh gave the Knights some belief heading into the final term trailing by 37 points. The Knights jumped out the blocks quickly in the last with Jacob Booth and Fiorini adding goals before the Stingrays were again able to wrestle away control of the match. With the game no longer up for grabs and Dandenong showing its class they went onto to win by 49 points.
