This week we ventured over to the arch enemy in Riddell. Most people didn't given us much hope but the way we had trained and prepared we were confident we would put in a strong performance.
After failing against two other challenges this year the boys were really keen to put in a strong performance. The game was a very physical, and contested game especially in the middle of the ground. Our guys had been urged to compete for longer in the contest. Riddell have arguably the best midfield in the competition and I thought our boys really took it up to them for 4 quarters. Some inaccurate kicking in the first quarter (1.8) hurt us on the scoreboard, but overall we were happy with the way we were attacking the game. We went in with some clear plans to disrupt their game style and ball movement which was followed extremely well by the players. Although we thought we were on top the scores were level at half time. Riddell are a great team and club and we knew if we dropped off they would put us to the sword. After half time the boys got rewarded with their intensity from the first half. To finish with a 7 goal win was a fantastic result for our players effort and commitment to the game. It was great to see so many supporters cheering on our great club and it definitely doesn't go unnoticed. Our players now understand that if they bring that level of commitment and intensity individual talent counts for very little.
