This report is brought to you by Brigton Gas Company - see Brock for all your plumbing. Although there was no reward on the boards there was some significant improvements from previous weeks. The seniors just could not seal a win against the 3rd placed team whilst the ress lead at 3/4 time but could not contain the oppsn. The U19s were beaten away from home and the school 1sts remain winless.
It was clear to all and sundry within the first few minutes that dissapointments from previous weeks had turned to determination and a much more switched on attitude. The midfielders were everywhere and winning the ball and there was pressure all over the ground when the opposition had it. Our eagerness might have produced a few skill errors but it was made up for by a positive attitude. It was a free flowing game of high quality in perfect conditions and we went to the first break down by 5 points with the same number of scoring shots.
The second quarter was more of the same and it was clear we were in the game. The in and under team of Pinot, Nash and Gledhill were doing well and consistently driving us forward. By half time the difference was only 8 points.
The third quarter was the best for Carey as their bigger players started to take strong marks under extreme pressure. We were still hard at it and the attitude was still good. Meehan and Nichopolous were providing good targets and working well together. The forward and midfield defensive pressure was making it difficult for Carey and making it easier for our backline. However by 3/4 time the lead had stretched out to 20 points due to Careys accuracy in front of goal.
However all was not lost and when we got the first goal in the last quarter to a rousing chear from the throng behind the goals you could sense it was game on. The game was one of the best we had been in for some time and we were giving it everything. We kicked 5.3 for the quarter against their 2.5 to finish 4 points short. But the take away message was that we can do it against the good teams if we are on our game.

The reserves had a pretty strong team and were looking for another win to make it two on the trot. In a seesoring game we found ourselves 5 points ahead at 3/4 time after trailing by the same amount at 1/2 time and leading by a similar amount at 1/4 time. However dissapointingly we were overrun in the last quarter to go down by 5 goals.
The U19s went to Monash on Saturday morning to face up to a strong Monash team again. We played quite well but could not make it happen on the scoreboard. The strong Monash team ran our clear winners but our guys did show a lot of spririt.
In a very disappointing season for the School 1st XVIII they went down to Xavier to remain winless and near the bottom of the APS ladder.
