This weeks report is brought to you by Refillit - see Nashy for quality reusable drink bottles. The only hightlight this week was the first win for the season by the Reserves and it was a decisive and well deserved win at that. The seniors were overrun by a more determined Mazenod in the second half and the U19s were soundly beaten. To add to our woes the school 1st XVIII lost narrowly to Wesley.
The reserves have earned top billing this week with a convincing 39 point win after kicking 9 goals 2 in the last quarter. The first quarter ended with both sides only kicking one goal but we had the opportunity to do more because we kicked 6 behinds to their 1. ie 7 scoring shots to 2. No doubt Coach Brockley explained again that bad kicking is bad football and they listened because in the second they kicked 4.2 to 1.1 to have a good lead at half time. The third qtr was not our best and again we missed opportunities and they didnt. We kicked x.x and they kicked 5 straight to be within striking distance at 3/4 time. Coach Brockley would have been savage and he issued the challenge otherwise it could mean a winless season. And respond they did with the best quarter of football any of our reserves teams have played for many years. A great win and well deserved.

The seniors had one of the most disappointing results in a long time losing to what was the bottom team with what was on paper one of the strongest teams fielded.
Round 7 saw the bloods head out to Glen Waverley to take on Mazenod. The Bloods were sitting on 10 points with 2 wins and draw for the season whilst Mazenod had recorded a solitary victory so far this year. Both sides had a number of players back and it was set to be a close game. The conditions were very good with no rain forecasted and the Mazenod ground being one of the best surfaces in the competition.
The first quarter was a competitive affair with both sides pushing hard forward and putting together some impressive passages of play. At the quarter time break Mazenod led by 1 point.
After some inspiring words from the coach the Bloods jumped out of the blocks in the second quarter with the midfield of B. Seccull and Gleadhill winning the clearances. The first 15 minutes was outstanding as Nicolopoulos kicked 2 excellent goals and Povey was dangerous up forward. The Bloods piled on 7 goals for the quarter in what was some of the best footy we have played all year. Mazenod kicked a couple of late goals to bring the margin back to 13 points at the long break.
In the 3rd qtr the Mazenod midfield started to lift and the opposition kicked 4 goals for the quarter. The Bloods had our opportunities however we were wayward in front of goal and could produce only 4 points for the quarter. McLachlan continued to pick up possessions across half back and Taylor was giving us plenty in the air however Mazenod’s confidence continued to grow as they searched for their 2nd win of the season.
The margin was 2 goals in Mazenod’s favour at the last change however the Bloods still looked right in it with plenty left to give. However the last quarter was all Mazenod who kicked 5 goals to our 2 to run our victors by 29 points at the final siren. B. Seccull was superb all day, J. Nicolopoulas was brilliant in the first half whilst Gleadhill, Taylor, Stowe, Povey and McLachlan all tried very hard all day.

Lucky there is always next week and if we work much harder and think it through we can turn it around pretty quickly.
