SENIORS
Lalor were full of running early in the important contest against Panton Hill at Sydney Crescent yesterday. The home side started with early pressure and and spread quickly to push the ball forward and kick 5 goals to one in the first quarter. They continued the pressure and stretched the lead by the long break. With the game practically over, the Hills decided they would start playing better football, and through the hard work of the reliable Reid Staples and Tyler Scarce through the middle of the ground and Tim Duckworth on the wing the Redbacks gave themselves a chance by getting within 4 goals. However, one quarter of football was not enough for the visitors and following a few missed opportunities early in the last quarter Lalor were able to steady and finish with a comfortable win. Jason Evans, Travis Miller and Jeremey Gercovich were the other key contributors by restricting the damage of their forward line opponents. Another big game for the Hills next week to keep their noses ahead of the bottom spot and maintain bragging rights over local rivals Hurstbridge.
RESERVES
A terrific performance by the Reserves, but unfortunately unable to maintain the lead late in the last quarter, slipping to a narrow 3 point loss in a very winnable game. “Red time” is the term given to a period in the game when cool heads prevail by both shutting out any opportunity for the opposition to get the footy and importantly for our own team to carefully and strategically add to the scoreboard. The Redback boys have deserved a win for a while now but couldn’t quite get it last week. Goals to Jayson Burleigh (3), Fults and Ned (2), Swordy and Noodles kept the Hillers going nicely with strong support from Redbacks all over the ground.
UNDER 19's
On Saturday unfortunately The Panton Hill boys didn’t take the solid preparation and pre match confidence into the game. The Hills were soundly beaten by a more determined opposition. It was disappointing because the team knows it can perform better than what they did. Better players were: Daniel Freeman with four goals Bailin Searle and Scott Thompson. The Redbacks now look forward to their first night game next week against Hurstbridge following the senior match
