In conjunction with the North Melbourne Football Club, the Australian Sports Commission and AFL Victoria, the Werribee Football Club has established a Multicultural Auskick centre at Wyndham Park Primary School.
The centre is aimed at students that speak English as a second language, and were born overseas or have parents born overseas. Currently 25 students are registered and each received an Australia Post Football, family passes to Werribee home game and tickets to North Melbourne games.
The object of the free 7 week AFL sessions, run as part of the Australian Sports Commission's Active After-school Communities Program, is to encourage participation, and learning the fundamentals of the game, but mostly it is about inclusion. The clinics have been run by Majok “Shaggy” Ngong Werribee’s Multicultural Development Officer along with Tigers players and SEDA students as part of the Club’s ongoing Community programs in conjunction with our community partner Bendigo Bank. .
This Monday North Melbourne’s Majak Daw and Eric Wallace will be attending the clinic to pass on their skills and experiences to the students.
The final outcome will be transitioning the students into the Auskick centre at Glenorden Football Club, and for them to play in the half time grid game at the Tigers Multicultural Day on August 10th.
