The club had one of its best days off the field with the success of the ladies lunch and guest Adam Elliot. His story is unique, he tells it in his own unique style and his message was inspirational.
His take away message is "Life is not a rehersal so have a go".
On the field we had our worst set of results for many years. Uni Blues showed us how far we have to go in both the seniors & reserves. With Uni back in full swing they showed us what a well drilled and skillfull side can do in good conditions. With the wind they continually centred the ball and they showed us how to go about it around the packs - one in and the rest spread. We started well and looked the goods in the first 10 minutes until our intensity dropped off. In the second half of the first quarter they kicked 5 goals to zip.
The second quarter and we had the wind but were outscored by 4.5 to 2.3. They showed us how to play into a mild wind with accurate kicking and running football.
The third was our worst for the year allowing Uni Blues to continually centre the ball with accurate kicks to targets and we failed to defend hard and wide. The result was a 10 goal quarter although when we did get hold of it we went forward with some confidence and kicked 4 of our own.
The final quarter saw us with a dying wind halve the quarter (both kicking 13 points). We were more accurate with 2.1 whilst we were pleased they were less accurate with 1.7.
Old Haileybury
Goal Kickers: A. Woltering 2, T. Chisholm , M. Meehan , C. Ferguson , O. Armstrong , M. Collins , A. Schofield , E. Limon
Best Players: H. McLauchlan, M. Stowe, R. Johnson, T. Witherow, J. Nicolopoulos, P. Gleadhill
The reserves were belted by 30 goals despite us having a pretty good team on paper.
The most disappointing result of the day was the 3rds having to forfeit again letting down the club.
The Under 19s found the going tough against a full strength Monash Blues team and although we put up a good fight we were unable to keep with the Monash team in the second half.
Even the Haileybury 1st XVIII could not get on the winners list at home against Brighton.
