Victory appoint new leader
Joe Montemurro named Melbourne Victory head coach for 2014/2015 Westfield W-League campaign.
Football Federation Victoria (FFV) is pleased to announce Joe Montemurro has been appointed coach of the Melbourne Victory Westfield W-League squad for the 2014/2015 season.
FFV has operated the Westfield W-League squad under a sub-licence agreement with Melbourne Victory since the national competition began in 2008-09.
Melbourne Victory is the reigning Westfield W-League champion, recording an impressive 2-0 grand final triumph against Brisbane Roar in February.
Montemurro replaces David Edmondson, who departed Melbourne Victory at season's end to take up the senior coaching role with FA Women's Super League team Bristol Academy Women in England.
"Joe has outstanding qualifications, a proven track record of success as a coach and a deep understanding of Victorian football at all levels," FFV Chief Executive Officer Mitchell Murphy said.
"I am particularly delighted we've chosen a home-grown Victorian coach and this appointment should send a clear message that FFV is fully committed to providing a pathway and opportunities for coaches that aspire to coach at the national level.
"I'm confident under Joe's leadership we'll give our title defence a real shake and we'll also be in a position in the very near future to announce the team's major sponsors for the 2014 season."
Montemurro, currently FFV's coach of the National Training Centre U17 squad that competes in the Sportsmart Women's Premier League, is looking forward to the challenge.
"It's a great honour to be appointed as coach of the current champions and I look forward to continuing the success that is now part of the culture in the group," Montemurro said.
Matildas defender Stephanie Catley will be captain of Melbourne Victory again next season.
