On Saturday 10th May the Northern Knights headed up the Western Freeway to take on the North Ballarat Rebels at Eureka Stadium. In wet and slippery conditions it was the home side that adjusted best to the conditions early and the Rebels kicked the opening two goals of the game in the first three minutes of play. The Knights were able to get back into the contest through the middle part of the first quarter and a long range goal from Jade Gresham kept them in the contest of the scoreboard. The Knights were then able to make an impact in the second quarter booting four goals to nil. Brayden Fiorini, Kieran Malone, Kain Proctor & Jayden Short all kicked majors and the by half time the Knights had opened up handy seven point lead. North Ballarat again took control in the third term but inaccurate kicking for goal cost them the chance to take a lead into three quarter-time. Late goals to Garrett McDonagh and James El Moussalli allowed the Knights to hold on to a lead of four points heading into the final stanza. However it was the Rebels who finished the game full of running with five last quarter goals to one. In the end North Ballarat finished with a 28 point victory. Liam Hunt was a consistent performer across the four quarter for the Knights in the midfield while Zac Ballard and Jade Gresham gave good support. Darcy Macpherson played his best game of the season while Kieran Malone continued his improvement. This weekend is a TAC Cup Development Weekend so the Northern Knights don’t have a match, although eight of our TAC Cup list will be playing for Vic Metro as they take on Vic Country in the opening round of the NAB AFL U/18 Championships. Good Luck to Zac Ballard, Jason Castagna, Liam Hunt, Kyle Langford, Garrett McDonagh Reece McKenzie, Sam Switkowski and Ryan Tester for Vic Metro.
