SENIORS
Despite plenty of rain earlier in the day the conditions were quite mild and fine when the lights were switched on for the fial senior twilight game at Cracknell Reserve this season. The crowd started smaller than expected but quickly crew as the game warmed from its very flat and slow start. In a tight contest Diamond Creek took the early lead at quarter time 2 goals to 1, thanks partly to a silly free kick and 50 metre metre penalty from the Redbacks gifting Diamond Creek their second goal late in the quarter. The scores reversed in the second quarter as The Hills squeezed out 2 goals at the favoured clubrooms end to finish the half one point down. The tight scrappy game continued in the third term with only one goal to each side which left the final term to decide the game. It was The Hills that got a run on with a goal to Nick Lowther, solid marks and goals to Haydn Bryce and Brendan O'Connor and a brillaint roving goal by big man Tristan Kreymborg over his shoulder on the run. The Hills were delighted with the win over Diamond Creek for the first time since the inception of the Graham "Spud" Cannan trophy which was struck 12 years ago in honour of the former player from both clubs who lost his life at the tender age of 33. Backman Travis Miller was judged best on ground for his work in the clinches whilst bigman Brett Middleton did a terrific job at full back on Jai Norman. Tristan Kreymborg did a great job in the ruck after returning from injury and was assisted by the consistent work of on ballers Reid Staples and Tyler Scarce. The other key contributer in a great team effort was Jarrod McGough in his first game for the season.
