Div 1 Match Report VS Penrith Rams
Playing the Penrith Rams after the Easter long weekend the seniors where well prepared after 3 solid training sessions. A little slow out of the blocks conceding the first couple of goals the Warriors were able to work into quarter becoming more accountable through the mid field. The Warriors should have been ahead at quarter time with 8 (2-6) scores to 4 (3-1) but inaccuracy meant we trailed by 1. The second quarter was more of the same. The Warriors were dominant through the mid field resulting in forward 50 entries but were again wasteful finishing the half 5 goals-11 to take a 14 point advantage into the long break.
The third quarter was a momentum shift with the Warriors starting slow and this was reflected in their ball movement, Penrith kept us goalless whilst kicking 4 of their own. Trailing by 4 at three quarter time the task was simple for the boys. Lift the inside pressure and get the run back. The Warriors responded to the task with a forward entry off the centre bounce. This set up a 3 goal straight final term whilst keeping the Rams to 2 minors set up a 13 point win.

Under 19s Match Report VS Penrith
Penrith were definitely the most improved side in the 18s competition in 2013 and had already banked some impressive results in 2014, so it was expected that Saturday would be a fierce contest. The penrith boys didn't disappoint and the first quarter was a cracker with the ball travelling end to end with great defence the hall mark of both teams. The second and third quarters saw a huge drop in intensity and talk from the young warriors and saw the rams jump out to a 3 goal lead at 3 quarter time. A big rev up saw a different warriors team hit the park running in the final quarter and huge comeback to be trailing by only 5 points with 4 minutes to go. Disappointingly some decisions did not go the boys way and potential march winning shots on goal were instead flicked to the other end of the field and resulted in goals for the visitors.
A game the boys didn't deserve to lose but will have to take as a result of only playing 2 quarters of high intensity footy. A bye next week and some hard training sessions will hopefully have them ready for the next game and a big win.
Highlights
- Conor Apcar and his hardness at the ball all day even after some "special" tackles.
- Stephen Veitch and his hard running and control from the back flank
- Josh Coopers constant front position and effort from full forward
- The team's last quarter effort and the focus after the game to have that level of intensity for the remainder of the year

Women’s Match Report VS Western Wolves
The Women’s team won their first ever match in the top division with a 15 point win over the Western Wolves on Saturday.
In a tight first quarter the defense held strong under some enormous pressure, with great individual efforts by Kristy Sutcliffe and Belinda Muldoon keeping the Warriors in the contest. Our midfield brigade led by Amanda Farrugia then started to win the clearances and after a great goal by Ashley Gray with her first touch of the footy, the girls went into quarter time just 2 points down. However, it was a blistering four-goal second term by the Warriors that broke the game open, with Jessie Wong and Bec Beeson leading the charge, and the Warriors took a 23 point lead into half time.
The second half was a much tighter and more congested affair, with the ruck-work and second efforts of Nakita Brown being the stand out. Steff Lee once again proved reliable in defence and Aislinn Albury provided a great target up front. Whilst our opposition fought hard in the last quarter to get back into the game, it was the tough clearance work of Laila Waisu and Liz Fassone that kept the Wolves at bay and helped grind out a solid victory for Mac Uni. New recruit Salome Cerda-Vargas also played some great footy off half-back and Tash Nair also had an outstanding game on the wing in what was hopefully the first of many victories for 2014.
Highlights
- Play of the Day: It’s hard to go past Jessie Wong’s two unbelievable goals. The first was a snap from the boundary that defied physics and the other was a kick around the body, at speed, which took a mean leg-break through the goals. Team-lifting stuff!
- The ruck-work of Nakita Brown was made even better by the fact that she was often roving her own taps. She also played all four quarters which was a huge effort in a demanding position!
- Congratulations to Brooke Ashcroft & Roxi Goff who both made their debuts on Saturday. Second gamers Hana Said & Tess Malcolm also showed plenty of promise! To start playing AFL footy in the Women’s top division is a tough ask and they’ve all handled it very well!
