SENIORS
Hurstbridge hit the Hills early and got the first goal of the game within a minute to show The Hills that they'd have to work hard to contain the visitors. From there the Hills tried to slow the fast paced Hurstbridge side who spread quickly on the turnovers. It was the hard tackling and endeavour to be first to the ball that helped the Hills edge their way on top throughout the quarter and with more accurate kicking from set shots could have been more than the 11 point margin by quarter time. the Hills kept the momentum in the second quarter but still didn't capitalise on the opportunities in front of goal. The ball was bottled up throughout the third quarter but the Bridges did enough to keep themselves within reach at the long break with a late goal. Goals went both ways in the last until The Hills managed to strech the lead to a game high 23 points with 5 minutes to go. Hurstbridge got two late goal but never really looked like overtaking the home side who were elated with their first win in division 2 in front of such a large crowd under lights. The backline for Panton Hill was superb with Jeremey Gercovich showing he's one of the prime full backs in second division and Will Box turning back the clock to show his dash off the backline. Tyler Scarce threw his body on the line and was supported by Lloyd Toffolon on the wing, Josh Chapman off half back and fellow smallman Tait Forster. A tremendous team effort overall by the Hills with 4 solid quarters of football to get the season going.
RESERVES
With lots of changes in and out of the side the Reserves have not been able to settle so far this season. Things just didn't get going well enough against Hurstbridge on Saturday afternoon and a heavy loss was the result for the Redbacks. Matt Layt picked up plenty of ball whilst newcomer Glenn Barnes was strong as was Luke Morse in defence. Other important contributors for the day included Leigh Scully, Ned O'Laoughlin with plenty of attack on the ball and the all important smallman Brett Aldred.
UNDER 19'S
The Redback under 19s were instructed to provide a full four quarter effort and while the score board indicated a substantial loss to a much more experienced and skilful Hurstbridge team we witnessed individual improvements in a number of the lads which was pleasing. On Saturday the Hills also welcomed back a couple of players to the club for the first time in many years in Max Steel and Oscar Weischmann who fitted straight back in. The Hills defence stood tall all game lead by Scott Thompson and Jackson Mill but these guys were also well supported by Daniel Burleigh and Josh Hodges at stages. The midfield was solid with young Marky Mark, Darby Watson and another great performance by Ross Marshall was a highlight while Big Max Clear is showing he has all the ability to be a great ruckman for this club for many years. It was also pleasing to witness the never give up attitude that the Redbacks have developed nicely. The Redback U19s are showing all the desire and belief required and another win isn't too far away.
