Hines Wins National Bronze

The SA Country Under 18 Women returned from the 2014 Australian Junior Championships with Bronze Medallions receiving just rewards for their overall outstanding performances throughout the week of competition.

Junior Laker and Roos Senior Womens basketballer, Rachael Hines, played a huge part in the teams success. Hines is a bottom aged player in the set up and had a lot of personal success throughout the week.

Hines started in 7 of the 8 matches the the women competed in and had stats average per game of 4.38 Pts, 3.5 Rbs and 1.25 assists.

The SAC Women finished third in their pool after defeating WA Metro 78-69, New Zealand 83-68, ACT 83-66.They lost to Vic. Metro 74-86 and NSW Metro 61-72 in games in which SAC led for significant minutes but the depth of the opposition got them over the line in the final quarter. Their one point loss to Queensland North was however a blot on the copy book.

These results set up a three way tie for positions 3-5 between NZ, WA Metro and SAC in the pool. SAC finished third and went on to defeat NSW Country, 74-65 in the quarter final. Walker played a sensational game for 14 points while Hines continued as a consistent contributor with 11 points.

This win led them into a medal semi-final rematch against Vic. Metro, who had accounted for Queensland South by 30 points. The match followed a similar pattern to that of their previous contest as SAC pushed Vic. Metro until the closing minutes. Final scores were 58-73. These figures and the ability to match it with the eventual champion reflect the improved performances of SA Country teams under experienced and quality leadership.

The SA Country Women finished the Championships on a high by comfortably winning the Bronze Medal Game against arch rival, SA Metro, 76-62.Walker played well for 14 points and 8 rebounds and Hines was again consistent with 9 points and 8 rebounds.

The Roos Basketball Club wish Racheal the best for the future and would like to add that Racheal is still in contention to represent the SA Country womens team next year.
