Summer Season 2013/14 Title Winners

The Roos Basketball Club is please to annouce that 2 of the junior Roos sides have won Grand Finals during the 2013/14 Summer Season. These sides were the Youth Mens and U16 Girls competitions, there are short articles on the teams below.

Youth Mens Winners

This side was coached by current Womens Senior Head Coach Malcom Allen, had a great season of development that resulted in a team full of great team spirit that took out the Youth Mens competition.

In the second successful season of the Youth Mens competition, that was brought together by representitives of the Basketball Mount Gambier community, including current co-president Liz Noble-Hines, the boys took out the win over the Panther 30 - 27.

The competition was aimed at developing young boys and mens in the local competition to help bulid the strength of current U16's and U18's competitions. After being extremely successful during the 2013 Winter Season, the competition was expanded even further and all 4 teams being represented with lots of players.

The side who took out the competition were: Dylan Hogan, Nick Holmes, Lachlan Jones, Joushua Knowles, Ben Mattila, Samuel Potts, Riley Sturges, Brett Tonkin and Coached by Malcolm Allen.

Coach Allen said that the most impressive thing was the team spirit, "The boys were excellent all season. The team developed and we got a few wins behind us and it set us in good stead for finals."

The boys had an even record at the end of the season. Coach Allen continued saying, "When we got those wins towards the end of the season we started to believe as a team. The Finals were played with an extremely good quality of basketball, we belived in ourselves a lot and that is what got us through."

The Roos Basketball Club would like to thank the coach, manager and parents for the season. Finally, we would like to congratulate the boys on the win. 

U16 Girls Champs

The U16 Girls had a great all-round season, making the finals finishing the on top of the ladder they continued the great form and took out the competition.

The consisted of three current state country representetives: Lauren Ross, Olivia Dukalskis and Mary Wilson. The squad also had Jasmine Croser, Lauren Holmes and Georgia Hood who finalised Coach Malinda Markiewiczs side.

The girls took the Grand Final by 23 points in a great basketball display. The final score was 55 - 32 agianst a very good Cougars side.

Coach Markiewicz was impressed by the leadership, "The SA Country representitives were great for us through the season, but what makes championship teams is everyone playing as a team and unit and the other girls who aren't in the spotlight as much did fantastic jobs for this team during the season."

Coach Markiewicz countinued on by saying, "This sort of result keeps the Roos Basketball Club in good stead for upcoming junior seasons and for the senior womens teams for the future and present."
