FOOTBALLERS Brent Christie and Brent Forsyth and netballer Ebonie Salter are the toast of the Horsham District league after winning the senior football and A Grade netball best and fairest awards on Monday night.
Edenhope-Apsley's Christie stormed home to grab a share of the Dellar Family Medal in a thrilling vote count at Horsham's Holy Trinity Lutheran Primary School after trailing Harrow-Balmoral coach Forsyth by six votes after round 12.
Salter, also of Harrow-Balmoral, had an easier run to her award and cruised home to win by nine votes from Edenhope-Apsley's Georgia McLennan.
It was a great night for both Harrow-Balmoral and Edenhope-Apsley, with Saints Emma Forster and Teagan Lang tying for third in the netball.
Forsyth said he was honoured and surprised to win the Dellar Family Medal.
"I had a hunch that Brent Christie would poll very very well, Glenn Wyatt, Robbie Miller, Steve Schultz, Timmy Wade - you could just keep reeling names off of guys that I expected to be well and truly ahead of me so it's a big shock," he said.
Christie said he was thrilled to win.
"You hope that you can be there for the last game of the year so it's a bit disappointing that we lost last week but I'm pretty excited that I've at least won this award," he said.
Salter said her award was a reflection of the strong play of her team during the season.
"It's great because I'm in some really good company in the league so I'm pretty excited about it," she said.
Other winners on the night included Edenhope-Apsley team-mates Shane Grigg and Tim Adams in the reserves football, Noradjuha-Quantong's Rachel Pipkorn in the B Grade netball and fellow Bomber Juanita Adams in the C Grade netball.
Edenhope-Apsley picked up the overall club award, Rupanyup coach Glenn Wyatt the Harvey World Travel, Wimmera Mail-Times champion footballer award, Brent Christie the best opposition player and Simon Hobbs the best under-21 player.
Col Bigham received an outstanding service award for his work as a time-keeper and Shannon Argall, Ben Anson and Kirby Knight were awarded for being the leading goal-scorers in senior football, reserves football and senior netball respectively.
