Who can talk to the umpire?
ONLY the Umpire Escort is permitted to interact with the Umpire during breaks in play (other than at 1/2 time when the Team Manager carriers out the administrative portion of their role).
NO ONE else is permitted to approach and address the umpire, nor is the Umpire Escort permitted to speak to the Umpire about game related matters and the Team Manager is NO LONGER permitted to clarify rules with the Umpire during the game.
Who is responsible for crowd behaviour?
In addition to escorting the umpires and providing them with a drink during breaks, under SMJFL By-law 16.34, the Umpire Escort is responsible for addressing issues involving the behaviour of their team’s spectators towards the umpires.
How many team officials are allowed on the team bench during a match?
As per SMJFL By-law 9.7, a maximum of four (4) team officials are permitted in the team bench area. All spectators must remain behind the fence and away from the team bench area at all times.
How many messages can a Runner deliver at a time?
As per SMJFL By-law 16.8, designated deliver a maximum of two (2) messages at any one time and then RETURN TO THE TEAM BENCH AREA. No barracking, obstructing or interfering with player/s from the opposing team.
When is a Trainer permitted on the ground?
Trainers are permitted on the ground to attend to an injured player. At all other times they must remain within the Team Bench area.
What are the rules associated with Water Carriers?
SMJFL By-law 16.14-16.19 outlines the rules for Water Persons including Water Carriers MUST NOT be within 30 metres of the team bench, MUST NOT pass messages, MUST NOT interfer with play, MUST NOT coach, MUST NOT approach or talk to the umpires.
