With the football season finally under way, now is the perfect time to wish all our teams the very best of luck for a fantastic 2014 season.
Some observations from Round 1...
Our new Under 8 teams having their first hit out.
A newly appointed professional medic at our home ground ... every minute of every game!
The new rules and the requirement for more parents to volunteer as field umpires.
And many new faces stepping up to fill positions from Team to Committee level.
All, make me proud to be part of this great club.
The matches that I watched on Sunday with the new "Zones" were some of the most free flowing games at the younger age level I can recall. Fantastic to see. A great initiative by the AFL/SMJFL.
That leads me to the following message that we have received from the AFL and SMJFL. Both are heavily promoting this year, to all participants at all levels, the following reminder.
I would like to ask the MJFC community to remember this also. You will see scattered around the ground, signage displaying the following:
Its all about the “spirit” of the game.
The primary focus of junior football is to foster the development of junior players, volunteers, umpires, coaches and officials. It is to provide our children with a game environment that is safe, fun and fair. Learning to win and lose is part of the development of all participants, but remains secondary to the primary focus of player development.
All game day officials and parents - YOU are role models! It is the responsibility of every participant, irrespective of their place in the game, to ensure they promote fairness, respect, tolerance, sportsmanship and the values of being part of a sporting community.
By keeping this at the forefront, we can nurture and preserve the love and passion of the game in our players.
