With one of the best training and preseason jumper presentation evenings we have ever had we feel that each team has had one of its best preseason preparations for many years. We are not sure how we will go because we dont know what the oppositon will hit us with but we do know that every player will be well prepared and giving it all whether it be in the U19s, 3rds, 2nds or seniors.
We all know that every team will probably feel this way at the start of the season and thats what makes it interesting. We can only control what we do individually and as a team.
The jumper presentation to new players (and there were a few of them) from the Coaches and Team Managers was stiring but to hear from 247 game veteran Roger Guerney what it meant to wear the magenta and black looking back was great. Then to hear from Brisbane, St Kilda and Old Haileybury Champion Brett Voss about the most important lessons he had learnt from the game was riveting. We had a good glimpse at the future of the club where the Under 19s coach, Pat O'Leary spoke of what he was looking for from his team and new players were presented with their jumper.
We heard from our reserves coach Craig Brockley who announced his team and presented quite a few new jumpers. He spoke with passion about playing for the club and how the club atmosphere was the best he had seen (5 years)
Finally we heard from our senior coach - St Kilda 321 game champoin and Old Haileybury premiership player Stewart Loewe who capped it off with a passionate summary of what he expected. It was not unexpected how it dovetailed into what had been said earlier by Roger, Brett, Pat & Craig.
The message was consistent - take responsibility for your own preparation and how you apply yourself in the game and around the club. Play hard and play for the team.
