So much for the Off season
So much for the "off season". The Watsonia Heights FC junior girl's teams have been far from rested.
We have conducted two successful "all girls" open days at Gabonia Reserve and a special training session that included Emily Hubert and Alex Natoli from this years victorious W-League Melbourne Victory team.
FFV has requested Watsonia Heights FC to be the Girls FC Tournament ambassadors. Several members and players have conducted interviews promoting girls football, in particular Girls FC (March 22 & 23) as part of this program.
Our under 11 girls were offered the honour of presenting the winning medallions to the Melbourne Victory squad on the presentation stage after their 2-0 win over Brisbane Roar at the W-League grand final and who knows, perhaps we may have some of our players receiving these medals one day!
In addition to outdoor activities, we have a strong girls presence playing junior Futsal at McLeod stadium on Friday nights for the last two terms. We have a under 12 and two under 14 girls teams competing.
The open days held during the off-season encouraged new players to come down and meet our existing Watsonia players, participate in training skills and have a ‘scratch match’. With a record number of four teams for junior girls and two open women's teams this year, female football at Watsonia Heights FC is the strongest its ever been.
Recently we held our first practice matches against Pascoe Vale which was a great solid hit out. Other practice matches are arranged in the coming weeks against local girls team before the season kick off.
We had four junior girls teams playing in the FFV Girls FC Tournament at the DISC {Darebin International Sports Centre} weekend of 22 and 23 March with 40 playersparticipating. In essence Watsonia were 40% of the team registered.. Many girls played up an age group, so whilst it was hard Yakka in certain matches they had a terrific tournament over the 2 days gaining valuable experience. Possibly the highlight was the Watsonia Blue v Watsonia Red Under 14 match which ended 2-1 with a own goal deciding the outcome in the dying minutes. Exciting stuff !
Whilst our teams are brimming, we certainly still welcome any new enquires. Please contact:
