Laharum coup: Uebergang appointed playing coach

LAHARUM’S netball results didn’t live up to the premiership glory of its football side last season but the signing of former Horsham playing-coach Emma Uebergang could change that.
Uebergang will take the reins at Laharum determined to bring the team up to the level of premiership success she enjoyed at Horsham.
She coached Horsham to back-to-back premierships in this year’s Wimmera Netball Association grand final. The signing is a coup for the Mountain Maids, who finished with just three wins this season.
“I’m looking forward to a new challenge at Laharum,” she said.
“It’s not that I want to leave Horsham because they’re my home club and I love them dearly and I’ve had the best last two years there.
“Laharum’s senior team finished second-last last year so obviously I want to be able to see them climb up the ladder and help them to be able to do that. I think it’s really about growing the junior netballers and developing them which is something I really want to help out with so they’ve got depth to choose from.”
Uebergang’s partner Marcus Demaria is co-coach of the fooball side and she said having a connection at the club helped make her decision to move easier.
Laharum netball director Vanessa Lenehan said Uebergang’s signing was a big step forward for the club’s netball program.
“We’ve been talking to her for the last couple of years but this year is the year she’s committed which we’re thrilled about,” she said.
“She’s learned from the best at Horsham so I’m hoping she’ll bring those skills out to us and share them with our players.”
Lenehan said the club would continue recruiting netballers in the off-season and could enter 2014 with a new-look side.
