Kees thump Mountain Men in wet

KALKEE has taken it to all teams this season and continued the trend by dispatching second-placed Laharum in a sodden showdown at Cameron Oval on Saturday.
The Kees kicked three goals to zero in the opening term, with light rain falling.
After the quarter-time break, the heavens well and truly opened and there were only three more majors kicked for the rest of the match.
The win was yet another confirmation of Kalkee's status as the benchmark of the league, and showed Laharum still has plenty of ground to make up if it wants to nab another flag.
Midfielder Steve Schultz and defender Josh Mibus helped get the momentum going Kalkee's way in the first quarter, while Tim Pickert, Oliver Young and Tim Wade all had big games.
Simon Hobbs kicked two of the first three goals of the match, while Josh Beddison and youngster Sam Jasper also kicked a goal each.
Coach Matt Beddison said he was extremely happy with the win despite his side having to battle the weather. "Considering the conditions and who we were playing, we're pleased with the win," he said.
"Our bigger-bodied guys were able to get better use of the ball from the start and the young guys are starting to step up at the right time of the season."
The Mountain Men could walk off the field with their heads held high after trying all day long, but were outclassed by their opponent in the wet.
Robbie Miller was a standout for the team with his work around the ground, while coach Marcus Demaria and big man Ben Peucker also slogged away in the sloppy conditions.
Demaria said his side was always going to struggle, missing players such as Rhys Bennett, Andrew Coombe, Daniel Griffiths and James Wray.
He said youngsters Angus Martin, Pat Easson and Harry Stemp stepped up to fill the void and got some valuable experience against the competition's best.
There were a host of injuries for Laharum, with Ben Mahon assisted from the field after breaking his jaw in a head clash with Schultz, Robbie Miller coming off in the last quarter with sore ribs, Brett Ervin concussed and Tom Inverarity out early.
