As part of the recommendations out of the Arnold Review into Umpiring the position of AFL Hunter Coast Umpire Manager was created to help develop umpiring in the region. The Umpire Manager’s role will be responsible for the coordination of umpires and the relationships between the Newcastle Central Coast Umpires Association and the three competitions in the area (Black Diamond AFL, Newcastle Juniors and Central Coat Juniors). The role will work closely with the BDAFL Umpires Coach to develop, educate and promote umpiring in the region.
Stepping into this role is Roy Reichert who has had a long standing connection with football in the area having participated in the region as a player, club committee member, league board member in both the junior and senior competitions and umpire in both junior and senior competitions.
Since 2007 Roy has been managing and coaching the Newcastle Junior umpiring group and has been involved in the AFL Umpire Coach Professional Development Program since its inception in 2007 and is now part of a working party on umpire coach accreditation.
The NCCUA would like to congratulate Roy on his appoint in this role and look forward to working with him in helping to improve umpiring in the region.
