I MISSED REGISTRATION DAY IN MARCH - WHAT DO I DO?
If you missed Registration Day, you can collect your kits immediately after the session over the first two weeks. While I'm sure you'll want to grab them beforehand, please come and find us after we've completed the clinic when we'll have a little more time to assist.
WHAT TIMES / DAYS SHOULD I COME?
We run sessions on both Saturday and Sunday from 8.45am till 10.00am. Just like school, please arrive BEFORE these times so we can start right on 8.45am and complete the activities and be off the grounds by 10.00am. If you do arrive late, please join the relevant age group (see below for details) directly.
You're not "locked in" to coming on only Saturday or only Sunday. We know that most of you will plan to come on either day but you are welcome to change around as needs dictate e.g. friends birthday party, etc. We do look to accommodate people for both days.
WHAT DO I DO WHEN WE ARRIVE? WHERE DO I GO? WHICH GROUP WILL MY CHILD BE IN? WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY?
The first thing we do is bring all the kids together at 8.45am to welcome everyone, share any relevant information and then kick off the sessions. On Saturday we gather all the kids together on the main oval in front of the pavilion.On Sunday we do the same but on the outer oval.
Children are grouped by the school year they are in i.e.
* prep/kinder
* grade 1
* grade 2
* and for Saturday ONLY we have a Grade 3+ group
After the welcome session coaches will then lead the kids to their designated areas and take them through the drills. Every few weeks we will also hold the parents for another 5 minutes or so to address something specifically for the parents e.g. when we have the AFL game day details to share, share any information regarding upcoming events, etc.
WHAT DO I BRING/WEAR? DO MY KIDS NEED FOOTBALL JUMPERS/BOOTS/MOUTHGUARDS?
Kids can wear anything sports appropriate for the weather of the day. During autumn you may dress warmer and on colder days particularly in winter kids will wear long sleeve tops. If you have football boots then the kids can wear them but they are not required. Similarly, there is no requirement to bring a mouth guard. This is a personal choice parents make for their kids. Auskick rules are meant to be non-tackling but this is a personal choice. Auskick provides all of the footballs for the drills. You're welcome to bring yours down to practice before and after but please label them properly so they don't get gathered up at the end of the sessions.
WHAT CAN I TAKE HOME?
NOTHING! The footys belong to Auskick and they stay at Auskick. Each year we have a lot that get "lost" which means we need to spend money on replacing footballs instead of other essential equipment.
WHAT IF IT IS RAINING?
The coaches will be there every Saturday and Sunday morning and will assess the weather at 8.45am. If it is raining heavily at 8.45am with no sign of let up then we won't be running the session.
HOW CAN I HELP?
First and foremost, parents are encouraged to join in with the drills. While we have a great group of coaches who lead the sessions, the kids get the most out of it when we can break them up into smaller groups of around 5 kids which is best facilitated by having parents assist with running drills under the coaches guidance. Every year we are always looking for more coaches to step up and help out. This year we are in particular need of coaches to assist with the SUNDAY group as this has been a real growth area. The AFL provide plenty of supporting material and formal coaching classes. Last year we were lucky enough to have 2-3 coaches per grade which meant the workload was shared around. We NEED more coaches this year to maintain this level of coaching and kids like nothing better than to have mum or dad coaching them.
We will also need 3-4 people for Saturday and Sunday to assist with running BBQ's during the year.
We'll also be looking for some assistance with some specialist assistance (e.g. first aid, photography) but nothing too onerous.
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact any of us directly via email or mobile as per our contactc details on this page.
