By now most of you will be aware of the tragic passing of Wolf Steensen on Saturday; a victim of a senseless and cowardly attack. Wolf was king hit from behind after selflessly going to the aid of a stranger.
This all too common occurrence of king hits and coward punches is a scourge on our society; it is indiscriminate, sudden and deadly. It could have been any one of us; a brother, father, son, best mate or husband. We will do all that we can to spread the message that one punch can kill anyone and that there is never a reason to do so.
Wolf was a special man. Sure he was a larrikan and a bit of a rough diamond, but he had wonderful qualities. Outside his love of fishing, golf and sailing, all his energies were on making AFL Masters better for his 'flock'. He loved anyone that put on a QLD jumper and would fight tooth and nail at national carnival meetings to protect the rights of us Queenslanders. He loved his Aspley and Parrots mates and when they pulled off a good win he was happy for his team mates, not himself. And he loved the country players in Central and North Queensland. As President he did whatever he could to further footy up there and was instrumental in getting them their national carnivals. And he loved his Sunny Coast mates. He has always had a special bond with those guys, stemming from his great friendship with Marty. Whoever he was with, he was all about making sure those people had a better time because of his presence. And his work as President was tireless, not for himself but for! his mates all across the State.
Rest In Peace Wolfie me old mate, you will be sorely missed and taken from us way too early. And we know you'll be organising a game of footy wherever you have ended up.
Funeral details will be communicated once known and AFL Masters QLD will ensure he gets a sendoff he'll be proud of.
Please accept my apologies if you receive this message twice as the SportingPulse databases cannot be merged.
To our friend the Wolfman.
