After meeting at the Lancefield Bakery on Saturday about 40 players and coaching staff drove in convoy to Camp Toobs for the club's inaugural training camp.
As players arrived and got changed a stretching session commenced, followed by a walk, which preceded a gruelling 8 km (Meesey Kilometers).
After the run another stretch, tent pitching and a lunch of bread rolls.
After lunch the players split into 5 teams of 8 to take on the Camp Tooby commando course.
The teams ran a 400m obstacle course, carried bathtubs across a dam, weights, hill run and swimming lengths of the top dam. Each activity was completed by all teams in 25 minute stints.
Upon finishing the gruelling course the group showered and changed for a pre dinner meeting.
Dinner of pasta and rolls followed.
After dinner each team performed a skit on stage. Not only good hard working footballers but most adept in the performing arts, with AJ being an absolute stand out. The Happy Days team saluting the judge and winning first prize.
A night around the campfire followed. The guitar came out and a few boys showed their musical prowess. The evening finished with a sumo wrestling display as the players headed off to bed after a hard day's work.
Up early Sunday pack, clean up and head home.
Many thanks to John Meese for the catering-- he should own a restaurant-- Frank, Matt, Jamie and Ed as coaches and to all the players who fronted--a great effort.
Well done.
