Coburg Football Club are delighted to announce our first signings ahead of our historic season going stand alone!
Nick Carnell – Our courageous captain for the past 5 seasons, Nick capped off a great year coming third in our Best and Fairest in 2013, his leadership and experience will be vital in 2014.
Ben Clifton – Our vice-captain of the past few seasons, Cliffo has been a mainstay in the midfield, and will be one of the experienced heads in our side this season.
Tyssen Morrow – The 24 year old from Korumburra played for Frankston in 2013, and after kicking 7 goals in the first half of a practice match, Tyssen sadly broke his leg in the second half, derailing his season, however after returning for the final few games of the season, we are delighted to have Tyssen on board for 2014.
Michael Hartley – Michael joins the club from Collingwood, where he's spent the last two years as a rookie after holding a NSW scholarship. At 196cm, we are excited to have Michael on board, and see him as one of the crucial pillars in the team for the upcoming season.
Adam Saad – The highlight machine from Calder returns for his second season at the club after winning the Brad Nimmo award for best first year player. Adam provides an x-factor to the side that can't be matched, and we look forward to seeing what he can produce in 2014!
Blake Guthrie – Blake joins the club from St George Dragons in the Sydney AFL, where he's also had experience with the Sydney Swans Reserve side. The 20 year old is a quick midfielder who is capable of stepping straight into senior VFL football
Lech Featherstone – 24 year old Lech joins Coburg from Pascoe Vale, where he's won the Best and Fairest in the past two seasons. A natural Centre Half Forward, Lech has a wonderful set of hands, and will be one of the key targets up forward in 2014, we are excited about what Lech can achieve in the VFL.
Errol McConnell – Errol joins Coburg from the Calder Cannons, where he played 10 games in 2013. A strong tackler and competitor, Errol impressed Director of Football Kevin Breen at every match he attended, noting Errol's impressive rebound from defence and ferocity at the ball.
Charlie Van Der Byl – Charlie join us from the Cannons, and has already played for Coburg as a 23rd man in 2013, as well as starring in several development league games. Capable of playing up forward or through the midfield, we are excited to have Charlie back for 2014.
Nathan Blair – Nathan played for the Cannons in 2013, and was the winner of the Most Courageous Award at the Robert Hyde presentation night. Nathan is an impressive half-back who will provide run and carry out of defence, and can achieve big things in 2014.
Daniel Cooper – Daniel's a utility who has played previously for both Box Hill Hawks and Frankston, and will provide experience in the side in 2014. Capable of playing pretty much anywhere, Daniel will be a strong asset this season.
Guy Phelps – The former Box Hill Hawk won a development Premiership with the side back in 2011, and played for North Ringwood in 2013. Guy's a tough inside midfielder. At 190cm, he provides a strong presence, and will have the chance to flourish with the Burgers.
Matthew Clark – Coming across from the Northern Blues, Matt is a tall forward who is capable of playing as a flanker, making him very difficult to match up on. Strong in the air but also at ground level, we are excited by what Matt can achieve in 2014.
Joel Madden – Son of legendary Carlton Ruckman Justin, while Joel may not have the height of his old man, he possesses a fantastic leap, and has huge potential. Played predominantly with Aberfeldie in 2014, while also managing several games for the Cannons, we are excited to have such a historic name join Coburg's ranks, and are looking forward to helping Joel make his own name in football.
Zak Saad – Younger Cousin of Adam, Zak played for the Northern Saints in 2013, kicking 25 goals and being named in the best 8 times. Like his cousin, Zak has exceptional ability, and after admitting to us this is the first Pre-Season he's ever had to do, we're excited by the potential he shows. Lightning quick, and deadly around goal.
Jake Allan – The 2013 winner of Port Melbourne's Development Best and Fairest is a strong inside midfielder who will look for more opportunities at senior level in 2014. Jake has a good work ethic and can make huge steps in 2014.
Jake Anderson – 'Sugar' came to Coburg in 2013 from Seymour, where he has been an experienced player for a number of years. Provided a strong presence in both the Senior and Development side, where he was used predominantly as a forward. Ando's always hard at it, and is one of the biggest team men around the club, and we're delighted to have him back.
Omar Abdallah – Omar joined the club last season from the Cannons, and played 5 senior games in his first season. Omar won the Rocky Di Salvatore Best Calder Cannons player at our Best and Fairest night, and is an inside midfielder who always gives 100%.
