The Bendigo Bank Maryborough & Castlemaine District Football Netball League is pleased to release its Senior Fixture for the 2014 MCDFNL season. The 2014 season will kick off on Saturday April 12th with several marquee feature matches to signal the start of the season. Most notably, Navarre will unfurl their 2013 senior football and netball premiership flags against Grand Final opponents Lexton at home, and the Maryborough Derby between the Maryborough Rovers and Royal Park will be held on Sunday 13th April
Other key features of the 2014 draw include
- Night games in each of the opening five rounds at either Carisbrook or Trentham.
- Trentham hosting their first ever night fixture on ANZAC Day against the Maryborough Rovers.
- New coaches Rick Andrews and Brian Kelly to meet in the opening round as Andrews’ Talbot hosts Kelly’s Maldon.
- The Ballarat & District Junior Carnival to be played on Sunday 22nd June 2014.
- The MCDFNL will host the Geelong & District FNL in the Worksafe AFL Victoria Country Championships at Princes Park in Maryborough on Saturday 24th May.
- MCDFNL Grand Final Day to be held on Sunday 21st September 2014 at Princes Park, Maryborough.
- Regular Sunday matches to assist with Umpire shortages
All clubs will have three scheduled breaks in the first three months of the season, with no matches scheduled over the Easter long weekend, on the weekend of May 24th/25th due to the Worksafe AFL Victoria Country Championships and also on Queen’s Birthday weekend in June. The league has also fixtured a split round in Round 14 to give clubs a break in the lead-up to finals.
After circulating a draft fixture at the 2013 AGM, MCDFNL Operations Manager Scott Carey received feedback from clubs which assisted in the finalization of the fixture allowing it to be released on Christmas Eve 2013.
“[The 2014] fixture has been a difficult task to put together, especially when we look to assist clubs as best as possible with their requests for the 2014 season”, Carey commented.
“After receiving feedback on the initial draft, I think we have been able to cater for all clubs for next year.”
“The league will now be able to further promote night matches with the introduction of new lights down at Trentham in the early part of the year.”
The Trentham committee have put in a lot of hard work over the off season and it will be a good reward for the club to draw some big crowds.”
“Sunday games will also continue in 2014 with clubs playing two each throughout the year, kicking off with the local Maryborough rivalry between the Maryborough Rovers and Royal Park.”
“Overall I think the League is in for an exciting 2014 season with the competition really evening up over the last few years”
Themed rounds will be added at a later date once all AFL Goldfields Leagues have finalised their draws to ensure all themes can be rolled out across all competitions
