South Toowoomba is hopeful its move into the premier Australian Rules facility on the Darling Downs will help energise the club as it looks to leave behind the 2013 season.
Boasting a superb surface and first class spectator facilities, the Bombers are looking forward to basing themselves out of Heritage Oval. To use the first class facility South Toowoomba have worked closely with the Toowoomba Regional Council, Bears Rugby club and also Toowoomba Cricket.
In their first year the Bombers will play six of their nine home games at Heritage as the club looks to build on the relationship with the users at the number one oval in the region.
"It's a huge step in the right direction for the club, one that has generated a lot of interest early," Bombers executive and life member Andrew Smith told AFLDD Media.
"Harristown Park was fantastic for junior football but when our seniors came back in for season 2005, it was way too small and we were always looking to get out of 'South Park', Smith added.
It hasn't been a process that hasn't just happened overnight with the club's executive looking at relocating and planning for the past 3 to 4 years.
"Every club wants to be strong, but to be a powerhouse club you need a strong base and we now have the first class base in Heritage Oval," Bombers life-member Smith said.
Heritage Oval is based on the North side of Toowoomba, just 5 minutes from the CBD and is the only facility on the Darling Downs that has hosted State League games that included the Brisbane Lions Reserves.
"It is fantastic to have a club based at Heritage Oval, the premier playing surface in the region and will really highlight our great game," Regional Manager Keith Webb said on South Toowoomba's new base.
"South Toowoomba have been playing out of a venue that has been way too small for some junior matches let alone senior matches and this move to Heritage is a move in the right direction," Webb added.
