We are excited to announce the appointment of Sandro Cirianni as the U/19 coach for 2014. Sandro understands that he is part of an exciting football program, and that his role is to develop and nurture the young talent at the club.
I asked Sandro to reflect on his experience with the club, and his vision for our future guns.
It’s been a wonderful journey for me as I started my involvement with West Preston as a player with the U19’s in 1988, in which we reached a finals birth, followed by a further 6 years playing senior football with a great team, great success and developing friendships that I have today and will certainly last for a lifetime. During this time I was fortunate enough to be involved as a player in 2 premierships. What I had learnt as a player and being involved with a team has certainly developed me as a person and represents who I am today and I thank the West Preston football community in providing me with this opportunity. Having a break from the game and the club as I married and started a family , I returned back in 2009, as my eldest son wanted to play football with the U13’s even though we are a “stone’s throw away” from the Bundoora Football Club. To me it’s about family and loyalty, as I continued to support the junior football club in number of roles in the capacity as a runner, boundary umpire and most recently as the U17’s coach . I now reunite myself with the Senior football department as the U19’s coach and very much looking forward to working in collaboration with the reserves and senior player group in developing the futures stars of the West Preston Lakeside football club.
Philosophy on coaching.
- Be Professional!
- Play with Discipline!
- Be Respectful of yourself, your mates and the opposition!
- Be Assertive!
- Be Effective in your communication!
It’s not always about winning even though it’s sweeter! It’s about learning and developing and becoming better as people. Football teaches us that when you get knocked down it’s about getting back up again & doing it again and again. Persistence prevails and your dreams can come true as long as you never give up!!
Your response in joining the WPLFC snr program
It’s coming back home and developing players to become better people and enhancing the disciplines of leadership, planning, respect, loyalty ,trust and teamwork that provides you with the necessary life skills to succeed in any path in life that one takes.
We had our first meet and greet night during the week and there was 28 U 19 players. This is a fantastic turn out and certainly demonstrates the positive energy and commitment from the playing group which sets the scene for a fun and enjoyable year ahead. Preseason will be tough but as a team we will work through it and learn from one another in the process. There are so many prolific players in this side that it is difficult to single out individuals. It’s a level playing field, work hard, be committed and follow instructions and it will all fall into place
