As we have experienced in recent years, the club once again faces a number of challenges for the upcoming season relating to the retention and recruitment of our players.
We recently appointed a new coach in Paul Satterley. We are thrilled to entice someone of Paul’s calibre and experience to the club however he needs on field talent to be successful.
We are under constant threat of existing players being enticed by significant financial incentives from other competitions. The stronger VAFA clubs have demonstrated an ability to attract talent. They do this by tapping into their old school and community connections to find employment opportunities for potential recruits. This gives these recruits an incentive to play and in doing so gives their professional life some direction.
With the exception of a handful of people (most notably Michael Hegan) De La has generally failed to do this effectively. We have relied almost entirely on our strong U19 program to produce senior players however it is clear this will no longer sustain us as a strong and viable ‘A’ section club.
The club has recently formed an effective recruiting sub committee that have generated a number of excellent leads. We now need to help of the wider De La Salle community to assist by providing employment opportunities.
We are currently holding resumes’ of a number of quality players that we need for 2014 and are seeking your assistance.
If you think you and help then please contact the club secretary at shumphrey@optusnet.com.au who will refer your inquiry to recruiting sub committee chairman.
The club would be most grateful for any support you can provide.
