The mighty Doggies completed what has been a fantastic year for the club, winning both the Senior and Reserve SFL Division 1 premierships at Springvale Reserve.
After finishing third on the ladder, the Reserves side led by coach Darren Rogers went in against Chelsea Heights, with Chelsea Heights having the weeks break.
The boys got off to a great start with young gun Jai-Marsden Sayce kicking the first goal of the game from the boundary.
Chelsea Heights were in the match early, but after half time the Doggies put the foot down to eventually run out with a 35 point win to make it back to back premierships in the reserves.
Jack Kreymborg was fantastic in defence as he has been all year and was rewarded with the Best on Ground medal.
In the seniors, Luke James was at his scary best, booting seven goals in a quality display.
After a tight first half, the Vampires went in to the main break with a one point lead.
The third quarter saw the Doggies get back to their normal game, going in to the 3 quarter time break with a handy lead.
The switch of Callum Cathcart into the middle sparked the Doggies and with big Andy Gilbert playing the game of his life, the second half belonged to St. Paul’s.
The Doggies stretched their lead to 40 points midway through the final term before some late goals in “junk time” lent some credibility to the scoreboard for East.
Despite gun midfielder Jay Bruno breaking his wrist, the Doggies went on to win the match by 23 points.
Big man Andy Gilberts superb work in the ruck and around the ground earned him the Jim Menielly Medal for best afield.
Overall, it was a great day in the history of the St Pauls Football Club and was a reward for all the hard work and effort put in by all the players, coaches, staff and supporters during the year.
It is the first time in the clubs long history that both the reserves and seniors have won the premiership in the same year.
Congratulations to all involved!
